what is love? the follow-up

Sunday, April 12, 2015
we had to write a blogpost for english class on what love meant for us (here's mine). it took an entire afternoon, dance class, three poems, and twenty minutes to write.
(I also went all second-wave feminist on another post and apparently became famous throughout the english department)
Things have changed a bit since then.

love is volatile, love is persistent, love is complicated and everywhere. for a while I thought I would never experience love the way everyone told me I would, should. love was mystical, a milestone reached only by a lucky few. it was something I never understood. making up crushes, denying crushes, defining crushes, it's all still pretty new and confusing. love is unfathomable. love is here.

"it just means you have more love to give"

not about one person but about many, hopefully you'll find something to relate to.
not about being in love, but about being hopeful, desolate, and everything in between.
yes, it features the mountain goats twice.

Instead of flying back to El Salvador for winter break, we flew up north to visit family.
And by up north, I mean way up north.
As in, Ohio.
Land of conservatives and below-freezing temperature, meet the bi tropical liberal.
It was actually really nice, and the three weeks flew by so quickly.
And and and we got to see snow !!!

a permanent decision

Saturday, January 31, 2015

taken with ipod 5 (5 megapixels) / edited with apple, afterlight, and picmonkey

...well, not so permanent. This tattoo is done with a gel pen. It traces two veins on my left wrist.
We went to a vegan restaurant with a couple friends during Thanksgiving break and one of our conversation topics was tattoos. I wanted an Orion somewhere near my collarbones. One of the friends wanted a really pretty sleeve (flowers??) or to connect freckles and bruises and spots on her leg to make constellations.

Tattoos are a huge commitment, and while I'm pushing 16 I am in no way ready for that (hey, long-term commitmentphobe here!). But that doesn't stop me from dreaming:

unedited. taken on the bridge to school.

currently listening to: walk the moon
currently reading: the catcher in the rye

but mother, can't you see
she's the one that ties me to the mast when the siren songs of shower heads
ring between my ears?

i thought that being happy required a certain set of rules. of goals set. i was going to be a graphic designer in some big city, maybe new york, have my own blog and fanbase to follow, go to school somewhere renown and have a double major, aesthetic apartment. macbook pro, cats. interestingly enough i never thought about my relationship status. skinny.

dog on stage, or, my poetry got published!

Monday, January 12, 2015
Around October the school hosted a workshop with the amazing spoken word poet, Neil Hilborn. He would give us prompts and we would write poems, share them, and generally have fun! It was such a great experience and I really hope we get to do it again, someday.

a true sign of writers: peace signs

Additionally, Neil did a show! And a poem with my brilliant classmates!!

The school's literary magazine, dog on stage, was so kind as to publish one of the poems i wrote during his workshop! Feel free to check it out here!!!!!! And check out the rest of the issue, which includes a poem from one of the greatest writing partners ever, misha, and other great things!!! wow so much fun!!!
